SOUTH WEDGE FARMERS’ MARKET
REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Dear Vendor,

We are pleased to begin soliciting vendors for the second year of the South Wedge Farmers’ Market! Last year was a hugely successful first year. We owe that to a committed group of vendors that offered a quality product at fair prices, as well as to the many customers that made it a priority to come out every week to our market to purchase food and enjoy the shopping experience.

Our location for the 2008 season will again be at the corner of South Clinton and Alexander Street, in the parking lot of Boulder Coffee Co. The hours remain the same, Thursday evenings 4 to 8, but the dates are being extended. Please see application for details. We will be expanding our vendor numbers a bit in hopes of diversifying our offerings this year, and with the expectation that our customer base will expand as well. Please look over the Rules and Regulations document to determine your eligibility to apply.

The SWFM holds strong to its mission to provide ecologically responsible food and food products to an urban market. This year we are further embracing that goal and are looking for vendors that are as committed to that mission as we are and are willing to work with us to provide clear, unambiguous information to the consumers. You will find a new question on the application this year that pertains to this subject. Decisions will be made using this as important criteria. We also reserve the right to require site visits of all of our farmers. Visits will be conducted by members of our Agriculture Committee, a subgroup of the SWFM Advisory Committee.

We are working on developing a clear, simple and visible signage system to alert customers at the SWFM to our vendors’ growing and processing practices. As a vendor at our market, you will be required to comply with this system.

If you would like to receive a paper copy of the application, please call or email and we will send one to you. All applications must be sent by Friday, February 29th. We will make decisions with our Advisory Committee in the weeks following and notify people by the middle of March.

We look forward to receiving your application and to another exciting year further developing a sustainable, localized food system for the Rochester area.

With Thanks,
Vicki and Chris Hartman

Rochester Roots develops innovative approaches to building healthy lives and healthy communities. We work with three city of Rochester schools to transform underutilized schoolyards into urban gardens. Our participants are taught how to start, cultivate, harvest, prepare and market vegetables herbs and flowers using organic agricultural methods. We grow heirloom varieties of vegetables as a way of encouraging diversity in the vegetable world and to ensure that rare varieties don't become extinct. All the plants we grow are unique in color, shape and flavor - we grow over 91 different vegetable crops, herbs and flowers and several varieties of each. You won't find any fresher or more local produce than Rochester Roots. Our gardens range from one to five miles from the market and the produce is harvested the same day it is sold to our customers.
