“At St. Joe’s Bakery, we work to provide food that is ecologically sustainable by using organic ingredients from local producers. We obtain our ingredients through Regional Access, an Ithaca-based company that provides local and natural foods from New York State farmers, and are careful to choose suppliers from the area. In our choices at the bakery, we are mindful of the impact they will have on the environment. We are driven by a desire to create nutritious baked goods that promote the health of the earth and the people eating them. In order to realize this, we are committed to using organic and local products. We are also committed to sustainability in our mission to provide employment opportunities and job skills training for unemployed members of the community. Apprentices from St. Joe’s House of Hospitality receive the guidance and support of experienced bakers while producing our baked goods. The bakers-in-training, individuals seeking job assistance, are given an important opportunity to gain skills and build their resume. This experience is intended to lay a foundation of concrete skills and experience for future employment, thereby contributing to the health and sustainability of our community.”
