The Farm
The farm includes both indoor greenhouse growing and outdoor crops as well. Traditionally a hydroponic farm, Freshwise has since transitioned to a predominantly sustainable, soil-based growing medium. Hydroponic practices are still in use for certain herbs and greens. An educational program has also been created at the farm to foster their vision of a healthy, sustainable food future. Compost is made on-site from locally-sourced, pre-consumer waste products. Freshwise Farms is a social enterprise of Foodlink.
Products Grown
Soil-grown field mix, greens, beets, turnips, carrots, leeks, garlic, herbs, summer and fall squashes and heirloom tomatoes. Hydroponically grown watercress, basil, cilantro, and other greens.
Growing Practices
Greens are grown year-round in the greenhouse, using sustainable soil-based and hydroponic methods. No chemical sprays or pesticides are applied to the plants. Beneficial insects and organic oils are used to control pests. During the summer months, Freshwise utilizes 1.25 acres growing outdoors, enriching the soil with the compost made on-site.
