May 1 is International Workers’ Day! In solidarity with workers throughout the world, including local agricultural producers, the Rochester Labor Council will join us at the market! Visitors to our table will find useful and interesting materials including “Our Community of Workers” coloring book and a “Map/Guide” to local labor history sites.

One year ago this Spring the South Wedge Farmers Market was somewhat of a dream, loosely imagined but excitedly hoped for. Attending the NY Farmers’ Market Federation conference in Syracuse in March 2007 is what solidified the vision and put things into action for Chris and Vicki Hartman, co-founders and co-managers of the SWFM. One year later Chris and Vicki were asked to speak at the same conference, held in Rochester March 2008, to share about their successful project, the many initiatives undertaken, and the way the community can be engaged. Around one hundred market managers from around the country came to the conference. Take a look at their presentation and learn more about the great model the SWFM is becoming!

This year the South Wedge Farmers’ Market seeks a radical inclusion of all members of our community. In addition to increasing the selection of foods, enhancing the special events, and now accepting Food Stamp Benefits, the Market is looking to get word out to ALL neighborhood residents. Help us in this effort by becoming a Market Ambassador for you street / block / building. Ambassadors will help us to get materials out to households, spread the word about special events, and be a reminder in their area of the market’s magic…
